Short history of my career so far.
1991-1993: Studied Visual Communications at North East Wales Institute (now Glyndwr University), specialising in Graphic Design. Had work chosen to be displayed as part of a national touring exhibition for runners up in a cheque design competition.
1993: After art college I was determined to get work in the graphic design field. Started as an artist for a local newspaper company in North Wales. Created art for ads, set up advertising feature pages, designed graphics for editorials and supplements.
1995: Stepped up to a typesetting job at the Manchester office of global advertising agency McCann Erickson, where I learned a lot more about Adobe software, typography and proof reading. Worked on typesetting various campaigns for blue chip companies and small businesses, preparing artwork to go to print. Was involved in creating print ready artwork for business stationery, press ads, posters, billboards, brochures and catalogues, and packaging.
1998: Decided freelance life was the next thing to try out so I set sail in my own little boat, working for design and advertising agencies around Cheshire and Manchester as well as my own clients.
2003: My house was hit by lightning. Not really relevant to my career other than I survived to tell the tale.
2009: Visited Bunbury in Western Australia with my family on a holiday and loved the place. Still do, and feel very fortunate to now live here. Decided to make it home.
2012: We moved to Australia, and after 3 months settling in I started working at our local newspaper as a graphic designer.
2018: Left the newspaper company after almost six years to help husband set up the best gaming shop in the south west. Designed the company branding, taught myself Wordpress and created the website which has the ability for people to book events online.
2019: Workshops and Marketing Co-ordinator at local not-for-profit arts centre. Massive learning curve to begin with as I had to organise workshops and classes, plan community events and learn spreadsheets. Challenge accepted!
